Now Playing Tracks

Okay, here you go. I coloured these with everyone’s least favourite drawing program, CorelDraw X5. I use Corel mostly for doing hockey jersey designs as my art skills are a little different than most here.  Anyhow, when I first saw this picture, I was trying to pick a direction to go, but when I noticed that panel on the front of Ramona’s skirt, for some reason something popped into my head: the “skants” (or “skorts”) of the first season of Star Trek: The Next Generation.  Luckily, those things only lasted one season.  I’m sure they’re comfy and all (this is coming from a dude who not only wears a kilt whenever he can, but also opts for a nightshirt in lieu of pajamas because he likes his leg freedom), but man, those are NOT stylish.

Enter Ramona Flowers. She makes ANYTHING stylish. Even rollerblades and aviator goggles.

I took that front panel and made it red.  Everything else just flowed from there.  Thought the hair streaks would be a nice touch.  Once it was done, just had to recolour them in the other Trek department colours: blue and gold. The red one, though, is the original, and you can call it my official entry if we can only submit one!

Sob story? Well, I live in Regina, which is kinda like Toronto except that it’s usually way colder in the winter and way hotter in the summer and, sadly, a lot more culturally bereft.  We only have one or two book stores of any renown, even in a city of 200,000.  I’ll be surprised if I even get an opportunity to buy these colour editions! My friends and I have shared the books and enjoyed the movie (heck, my wife and I still play the video game!); we GET Scott Pilgrim.  A copy of the coloured version of the story would find a happy home here, in the hands of a fan who might have a hard time getting one the traditional way.  Thanks for the story and look forward to reading what you come up with next, Bryan!  I hope Andrew Hussie buys you something nice (although Ryan North’s suggestion of puppies may be intriguing, they don’t ship well).

#ALTRAMONACONTEST

A TUMBLR CONTEST BY BRYAN LEE O’MALLEY

Here is Ramona Flowers as colored by Nathan Fairbairn. This is how she’ll appear in the official color version of SCOTT PILGRIM VOL 1.

What I want is to see YOUR idea of what colors Ramona could be! Show me Ramona’s Alternate Colors!

RULES:

- Grab the B&W art above. Color it in. I don’t care what you use, I don’t care if you’re talented, just make her look different and interesting! (ie NO PINK HAIR cause I already used it). Print it out and color it with crayons, do a crazy digital paint job, or anything in between!
- When you’re finished, post to your own tumblr with the tag AltRamonaContest. Me and my staff (I don’t have staff) will track the tag and pick winners!
- The contest will run from July 6 to July 20, two weeks long
- Yes, you do have to have a tumblr account. If you’re creating one just for this, it better look legit. If you have a blank face and an empty tumblr, I will be suspicious. I PREFER REAL TUMBLR USERS. This is a tumblr contest!

PRIZES:

- 3 winners will be chosen!
- grand prize: SCOTT PILGRIM VOL 1 COLLECTOR’S EDITION (retail value: $100 USD)
- 2 runners up: SCOTT PILGRIM VOL 1 EVIL EDITION (retail value: $40 USD)
- Will I ship internationally? Yes I Will. This contest is open to tumblr users WORLDWIDE.

For bonus points, include a sob story in your post about how you’ll never be able to get one of these special editions unless you WIN the contest!!!

What? Hell yes I’m in.
